Jan Lukens has been capturing the beauty of the equine form and the dynamism of the sporting culture that surrounds it for over two decades. His paintings are rooted in an unwavering attention to horse anatomy—a celebration of these creatures' physical prowess and innate grace—and a passion for the sportsmanship on display in horse show events across the country. Capturing the likeness of Olympic winners, a variety of breeds, and the intimate relationship between horse and rider, Lukens carries on a tradition of equine and equestrian painting rooted in the art historical canon.

Paired with the adjacent exhibition, A Hundred Years of Horses: Celebrating the Centennial of the Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show, this solo presentation of Jan Lukens' paintings further illustrates the robust and thriving equine culture that touches so many communities, including Blowing Rock.
