Job Posting: Education Center Intern

The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum is a non-profit museum (on the corner of Ginny Stevens Lane and Main Street) in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, a small village nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Its mission is to promote visual arts and history and to celebrate the rich heritage of the mountains.

The Education Center Intern is exposed to all facets of hands-on public program development and promotion for a Museum or not-for-profit organization.  During the 120 hour period, the intern will:

  • Be Responsible for public youth and/or adult educational programs, including:

    • Program Development for youth and adult events

    • Management of an institutional calendar

    • Marketing

    • Set-up

    • Execution of program(s)

    • Clean-up

    • Client follow-up surveys

The ideal candidate will have exceptional verbal communication skills, strong written communication, experience working with adults and children, a flexible schedule, and demonstrated interest in museums, art education, or not-for-profit institutions. This position may require some evening or weekend work; those dates will be set before the beginning of the internship. This position requires a background check as a condition of employment.

Interns are expected to be available by June 1, 2026, with work completed by August 15, 2026.

Job Posting: Special Events Intern

The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum is a non-profit museum (on the corner of Ginny Stevens Lane and Main streets) in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, a small village nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Its mission is to promote visual arts and history and to celebrate the rich heritage of the mountains.

The Special Events Intern is exposed to event development, promotion, and facilitation for a Museum or not-for-profit organization. During the 120 hour period, the intern will:

  1. Experience the nuances of organizing two major fundraising functions, including a formal gala with live and silent auctions for a Museum.

  2. Be responsible for facilitating and/or aiding:

    1. Volunteers

    2. Marketing

    3. Set-up

    4. Participating at the event 

    5. Database management

  3. Work closely with supervisor to understand institutional rhythms of communication. 

  4. Learn the process of soliciting organizations for support or sponsorship.

  5. Manage an individual project to compile a master VIP list to be used for all future events.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional attention to detail, an ability to converse engagingly with a variety of demographics, strong verbal and written communication, flexible schedule, and interest in museums, not-for-profit institutions, or fundraising and event coordination. 

Important dates: June 25, with possible evening hours. June 26, probable full day. August 14, and August 15, evening hours required. 

Interns are expected to be available by June 1, 2025 with work completed by August 16, 2025.
