The Art of the Limited Palette with Watercolors

Materials Included!

This workshop is designed for students to create and customize their own personal limited palette, using the medium of watercolors. Students will study the properties and relationships between colors and how to use these elements to create color harmony. Students will become more familiar with the characteristics of individual colors and how they behave when they mix them. Kathy Sabbath Oravecz will also demonstrate brush techniques and review good composition. Each day students will create a watercolor painting using a different color palette designed for their personal use. All materials will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own brushes if desired. Beginner to intermediate level (some art experience preferred).

About the Instructor

Kathy Sabbath Oravecz lives in The Coves Mountain River Club of Lenoir, North Carolina with her husband Mark, and toy American Eskimo dog, “Hana”. She is a graduate of Ursuline College with a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic design/Art education, and a Master of Education in Reading from John Carroll University. She also has many postgraduate hours from the Cleveland Institute of Art and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. The National Endowment of the Humanities awarded her two fellowships from Rutgers and Syracuse Universities. Ms. Oravecz is also the recipient of the American Watercolor Society Teacher Scholarship. She is a signature artist with the Ohio Watercolor Society, the Hawaii Watercolor Society and the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, and Whiskey Painters of America. She has created illustrations for the National Easter Seal Society and signed a licensure contract with Courage Cards for one of her paintings. The Holden Arboretum selected her as a Teacher in Residence. She has also conducted a teacher workshop at the Holden Arboretum entitled” Art and the Natural World”. She taught art for thirty years with the Madison Local Schools and was an instructor at Lake Erie College and John Carroll University. She has worked on writing teams for the Ohio Department of Education and was one of the authors of the standards in Art Education in Ohio. She is the author of several art lesson plans for the Ohio Department of Education and they are currently on the ODE site on the internet. She is the author/illustrator for a children’s picture book entitled “The Frog and the Footbridge”. She is currently teaching classes at the Coves Mountain River Club Lodge. Her watercolors are in collections across the USA and in the Netherlands.

Please Note: Limited seating is available. An 80% refund will be issued if the participant cancels two weeks prior to the event. For cancellations made less than two weeks prior to the event, BRAHM will issue a refund IF the museum is able to fill the vacated spot.
