Answering the Call of Your Land: Seeing The Practical, Delightful, and Sacred in the Landscape
This program will cover the functional issues in garden design and show how to transform your garden into something special. We will discuss techniques and draw from examples in our community that show beauty and utility in harmony and alignment.
At the root of Garden Design, there has to be a deep understanding of function, the needs of the land, and a healthy interrelated ecosystem between the land and the buildings. Once this foundation has been honored and attended to, the magic of transformation can occur.
About the Speaker: Jasmin ShoShanna
A long-time nature lover, Jasmine’s attachment to the land began on her grandparent's farm with black and red raspberry cash crops while raising a variety of subsistence crops to sustain their family. Her love of gardening can be traced to her mother, an avid gardener with a special love of Asian gardens, ornamental trees, and shrubs.
Jasmine’s love of wild plants and the natural environment brought her to study herbs with Susan Weed, Diana Donovan, Kim Issacs and many other herbal-wise people.
Jasmine’s educational background reflects her passion for connecting people to the land. Her undergraduate degree is in Biology while her Masters, from Appalachian State University (ASU), is in Human Development.
Jasmine has owned and operated Jasmine’s Gardens since 2006 and The Compost Operation since 2006. Jasmine’s Gardens is a Boone-based biodynamic landscaping business focused on creating healthy, natural living and creating spaces that help us live joyfully with the earth. From basic garden and yard maintenance to helping you create an outdoor space that fits your needs and feeds your soul.
